Welcome to the month of November, like it or not but winter is around the corner. This fall was a little disappointing in Central Illinois, most of us thought there would be some wonderful color but for the most part we were left hoping for better color next year. October was another busy month, it started with a wonderful shoot on a farm in Cazenovia, Illinois - cattle roping and branding. This is something you would normally find in the Western US not in Illinois, so it was fun to witness and record the event. Shot some high school sports and even managed a few trips for landscape images. One trip was to Starved Rock State Park and a few of my favorite water falls but with the lack of rain there was no water, without much color and no water it was a challenge but I feel like I came away with some nice images. If you have not had a chance to see some of my work lately, head over to http://prints.timlesterimages.com - included is some of the cattle roping. One highlight for t he month of October was when I was accepted to the website SportsShooter.com, the site requires a photographer to submit images and other information for committee review prior to accepting new members. Check out my page of sport images over at http://www.sportsshooter.com/timlester

This months image was shot at Yellowstone National Park last fall, for those who don't know Yellowstone was the first National Park in the United States, created in 1872. It's located in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, includes over 60 mammals, contains numerous locations for those interested in history and many locations for those who enjoy geology. This includes the largest hydrothermal area on the planet and contains approximately one-half of the world’s hydrothermal features! The area is so large I am not sure you would be able to see all of the park in your lifetime even if you lived there. Make it a must visit place, once you visit once you will have the fever to return again and again but plan carefully as the park can get very crowded during the summer and forest fires close roads every year. Personally I picked a time when most of the park had closed down, which had the plus of less people but also provided me with the chance to sleep in a tent all week with beautiful temperatures to begin my visit, which turned to rain a few days later and then turned to snow to end my week. Since most of the park is above 7500 feet elevation, temperatures had a wide range from the upper teens at night and reached in the 70's during the day early during my visit, before the snow started.

This month's image is a coyote looking for food in the snow from the area called Hayden Valley in Yellowstone National Park, hope you enjoy the image and have a great month. Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for widescreens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
