Welcome to the month of April!

First off, I would like to say thanks to everyone that came out to the Cornerstone Underground Art Society's Fine Art Spring Fling. Hopefully you enjoyed the various artist's and a chance to see inside the wonderful building. Next, looking for some feedback on what communication tools you use and how would you like to see these Monthly Updates arrive to you - do you like email, would you like to see them via Facebook, Twitter or another social media? When you have a spare minute, reply to this message and let me know what your preference is. I have once again added some new images to my Shopping site, you can find a few St.Louis Arch images located under Parks, a new gallery for Rural Illinois images and some new Peoria images.

Now back to our regularly scheduled update . . .

The primary image this month is from Starved Rock State Park, located in Utica Illinois, shot a few weeks ago in LaSalle Canyon. The day I was there, there was rain, sleet, sunshine with near freezing temperatures in the morning and mid-50's in the afternoon - what a combination! I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at LaSalle and find no-one around, for those you have been there you know how many people venture into this canyon daily. It was so nice that I sat down, just looked around and listened to nothing but water flowing, that's how I love to relax. I actually shot photo's in nine canyons during my day trip with LaSalle being the last canyon, I have completed phase one of a long term project. The project consists of shooting every canyon in 3 of the 4 seasons or all 4 if possible, I will keep you updated on my progress. At this time I have 3 of the 16 canyons with at least 3 of the seasons completed, with another 5 canyons with 2 of the 4 seasons completed. Over the las t 2 months I have actually seen a few canyons for the first time, I need to get out more!

The secondary image is from a late summer storm in 2009, the photo was taken outside Dunlap Illinois around 9pm. There are numerous methods to shoot lightning and I am still working on capturing better images each time I go out. As you can image, shooting lightning can get dangerous plus depending on rain, you can get very wet. Normally you end up with a large number of dark images or out of focus images but that's why we shoot digital - it's easy to delete the bad images. Hopefully this year I can chase some storms and capture some more unique images, I have plans to capture lightning near some wind turbines in the area. After this image was taken, I followed the storm for quite a few miles and arrived near a wind farm. I was able to capture some of the wind turbines lit up from the lightning but failed to capture lightning in the background of the turbines. Maybe this year.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
