We continue to head for fall weather around the United States, something I look forward to photographing every year. Hopefully with all the precipitation that has been soaking the country that we can have a colorful season. Speaking of water levels, hoping my friends around the country have not, or are not, impacted by the flooding over the past month. One friend in Dallas is dealing with a car that has been totaled due to the water damage, hope that is the only one.

This month was one of travel for myself, being on the road in thirteen states along with being on both coasts - I was able to touch both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans within the last two weeks. While that is an interesting fact, it's a number of travel miles between North Hampton New Hampshire and Oceanside Oregon.

We will start in Oregon with our first image, Multnomah Falls, located in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area. This is a very popular location for photographers, I did very little research about this water fall prior to attending - which is not normal. Generally waterfalls require some hiking to reach and longer the hike, the less people who visit. Without a question, this area is not one of those locations - the USDA Forest Service claims Multnomah Falls is the most visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest. Looking at pictures prior to my visit I would not think that is the case but there are over 2 million visitors every year and timed use/reservations are required during peak visitor season. One major reason, this waterfall area is right off Interstate 84 - the parking lot is like a rest area located between the West and East lanes, you actually walk underneath the East bound lanes to reach the viewing area. Camera Data: 16mm 2.0 sec F11 ISO50

Next we head a few thousand miles east back to Ohio and the location of our images from last month, The Wilds. During my visit I passed a few Osprey nests and prior to leaving the area I made sure to take a longer look. This particular bird appeared to be one parent watching over a juvenile and giving the young bird some education lessons. The parents were calling out and the younger bird was listening and flying, my assumption was the parents were providing instructions to the youngster how to hunt for food. While I was not able to see any of the birds capture a meal, I was able to see all three perched at one time and then one by one they flew off. The parents returning to their perch after a short time, this image was captured when this adult was making a pass toward the younger birds' direction - I just love the eye contact we made. Camera Data: 560mm 1/1600 sec F8 ISO3200
