Happy 2024!!! I hope everyone had a good holiday season and is ready for the new year. 2023 was a great year with ups and downs of life, overall I can not complain as it was an adventure. This new year appears to be similar to last but that's just based on initial discussions with clients. As the old saying goes, 'Don't count your chickens until they're hatched', we will not be expecting work to fall into our laps and we will continue to find new clients and old clients with new work needed. If anyone needs some photography services, let me know.

Would like to say thank you to everyone who asked questions or requested images in the past, if anyone has any suggestions or problems with the newsletter or desktop images, let me know and I will assist you.

The first image of the year is a portion of Emmons Glacier from the Northeast side of Mount Rainier, taken back in August of 2023. The amount of scaring is incredible, while I can not provide you exact details of size, just think of how large they may be since this image was taken from about 3 miles away - the trees in the foreground are a few hundred yards away. According to the National Park Service website, "Emmons Glacier has the largest area of any glacier in the contiguous United States" and "Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous United States". A couple of facts I did not know before visiting Mount Rainier NP, first is that there are 28 major glaciers in the park plus technical climbing skills with glacier knowledge are required to travel on any glacier above 10000 feet - guess I might need to get some training completed before my next trip to Mount Rainier. Camera Data: 200mm 1/800 sec F9 ISO200

Our second image is a common sight in the Eastern half of North America, a Barred Owl - they are year-round residents and have small territories. I have not been able to locate the nest of this particular bird and rarely see it but commonly hear its call. Another resident of the area is a Great Horned Owl, which preys on Barred Owls and its chicks. This image was captured shortly after sunset last January and I was lucky to spot this wonderful bird, who was more than willing to let me take a few images until I left it alone to return to its evening hunt.  Camera Data: 560mm 1/160 sec F5.6 ISO6400
