Summer feels like it's right around the corner, not sure if is reality or that's just an illusion. We are in full motorsports mode now; ice hockey has finished (unless the NHL calls) and that means long travel days has begun. Traveling by air is challenging at the moment and while most of my travel delays have been minor, it's still a little stressful when airlines have issues that can create the feeling you are not going to arrive at your destination on time. So far, the travel has been to Alabama, California, Florida and Georgia with another trip to California coming up. Interestingly, the temperatures have been all over the place, with lows in the 50's to highs in the 80s during the day at the race tracks and the coldest dirt track event was probably in Florida,
Our first image is from a tragic event that occurred thirty years ago. On April 19, 1995 the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was subjected to a bombing attack. In the original foot print of the Federal Building, there are 168 empty chairs for the Memorial location. These bronze backed chairs with rose granite seats and glass bases set in nine rows, the same number of floors the building once had with the number of chairs indicating the number of lives that were taken because of the bombing. The names of the dead are etched into each base, which are also lit during the night time hours. This image was captured before sunrise a few years ago. If you want to learn more about the location, visit the following website - https://memorialmuseum.com/experience/the-memorial/ Camera Data: 55mm 2.0 sec F8 ISO800
The action image this month was captured last Saturday night and has some historical significance with it. The rider, Kage Tadman, who is a 17-year-old from Salinas CA, was able to complete a feat never seen before in American Flat Track history. In his very first professional race, Kage was able to earn fast qualifier, win his first AFT Singles heat race, then capture the extra money in the four-lap challenge race and finally, was able to win the main event. Not only did he win each of these but was able to have control of each race, leading 34 out of the 38 laps run. Very impressive performance for the rookie, normally first-time racers struggle a little, mainly since the competition is much stronger than what was experienced in their amateur careers plus the added pressure of running as a professional and the different routine. On this evening, Kage was racing on the closest track to his home town that AFT visits, he had plenty of supporters in attendance. Time will tell if this youngster can stay near the top of the field. Camera Data: 135mm 1/320 sec F4 ISO10000
