Fall is officially here and in the Midwest, the trees are dropping leaves - unfortunately, not colorful leaves. In Illinois, it has been really dry for a few months and I am not expecting any spectacular color displays. Might need to take a trip to find some color in the leaves. This month's images are from the Dakotas, one from each state, and a wildlife image for your mobile phone. I hope you enjoy them.
The first image was captured a couple of months ago near Midland, South Dakota. This particular location was about ten minutes off Interstate 90. As I have mentioned in the past, these sunflower fields are very similar to our corn fields in Iowa and Illinois. The challenge is finding the proper sun location in relation to the field entrance. I am always careful not to damage the crops since I know someone is feeding their family from the field harvest. Some day I hope to make it out to the region when they are actually picking the crops, just as a comparison to corn or bean picking. Camera Data: 150mm 1/2500 sec F10 ISO3200
Our second image is from Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, North Dakota. Easy to identify this as a Big Horn Sheep, strange to think there are Big Horn Sheep away from the Rocky Mountain range but there is a considerable herd within the park. A large portion of the park is very similar terrain compared to Badlands National Park, but based on my experiences, there is more wildlife sightings at Theodore Roosevelt. While I hate large crowds, when I am outdoors enjoying nature, that is not a problem at Theodore Roosevelt, probably one of the smallest visitor counts of all the National Parks I have visited so far. Last year the park was ranked 31st out of the 63 National Parks in total visitors. This image was captured in the month of August, during my first stop at the park. The second time I visited the park, it seemed to have a larger number of visitors but I found a few hiking trails that nearly no one takes, at least during the times I have been there; it can be nice and peaceful, not hearing the sound of cars or people on their phones. Camera Data: 200mm 1/400 sec F6.3 ISO400
Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens, along with a Mobile Phone Image. For desktop computers or tablets, right-click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your device and change the background as needed for your OS.
For Mobile devices, most mobile phones require a long press and a menu pop-up will be displayed. Click save then follow the steps for your operating system to set it as your background image.
If anyone has problems or questions with their mobile device, let me know and I will try to assist.
