Another month gone by, seems like I just did the update for August. For me the month flew by as I was busy, which is usually not a bad thing. I shot a few sporting events, a large amount of landscapes and a some wildlife. The sporting events ranged from professional drag racing in Madison, IL, the first Xterra triathlon in the state of Illinois and the always wonderful Peoria TT motorcycle race. Managed to get out to shoot some new landscape stuff in the area and then spent a week in the state of Maine with my family and some great friends. While the majority of time was spent relaxing I did manage to get out and shoot a few days and had a great time. I guess it will come as no surprise to have this month's image to be from Maine, it was difficult to narrow the selection to this one image but I think everyone will enjoy the selection.
This month's image is from Acadia National Park, for those that are not real familiar with the park let me give you some details. In 1919, President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park, the first National Park east of the Mississippi River. In 1929, the park name changed to Acadia and today the park protects more than 47,000 acres on Mount Desert Island and surrounding area's. Awed by its beauty and diversity, early 20th-century visionaries donated the land that became Acadia National Park. Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is the tallest mountain along the eastern coast of the United States. During certain times of the year, it is the first place in the U.S. to see sunrise. Today visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery. I will be the first to admit the park is nothing like Yellowstone or Yosemite in the west but it has some wonderful scenery that needs to be explored by getting out of the car. The shot used this month was a location we found near Thunder Hole, an outcropping that makes a thunderous sound when the tide and waves from the Atlantic Ocean cooperate. On our day neither one did during our stop, while the crowd of people waiting for the magic to occur, we explored a different area nearby without all the people. If they only spent a little time and explored they could have found a little magic within 100 yards of Thunder Hole - their loss and our gain.
Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for widescreens.
