Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Hopefully everyone survived the heat wave of July 2011, it seems most of the country had a share. I had a busy month with shooting a few different firework displays for the 4th, the Balloons at the Park festival the following weekend and the Prairie Air Show which was held in very hot conditions on Saturday and raining conditions on Sunday. There were a few other smaller events and shoots, all of which were fun times.
Then came the bad times, we lost my father in-law on the night of July 23rd. Richard loved viewing my images and I will always treasure the times when we would take my in-laws to view the bald eagles, he never stopped talking about those trips whenever he would see a bald eagle image. He loved to be outdoors, so when his health prevented him from getting outside; he would view my many images from various trips and I am sure he was dreaming of someday taking his wife to visit the locations they were seeing.
The first image this month is from the Ballons at the Park festival, held in Chillicothe, Illinois last month. This is an annual event held in the Peoria area, with this years event being held at Three Sisters Park. The event is actually a balloon festival and Hot Air Balloon competition with pilots coming from all over the United States to compete, these truly are pilots and it's amazing the tasks they have to complete. The second image this month shows one the great bomber jets of the United States military, it's the B-1B. The B-1 Lancer is a four-engine variable-sweep wing strategic bomber used by the United States Air Force (USAF). A few facts for you, the initial B-1A version was developed in the early 1970s, but its production was canceled, and only four prototypes were built. In 1980, the B-1 resurfaced as the B-1B version with the focus on low-level penetration bombing. The bomber is commonly called the "Bone" (originally from "B-One"). The image was taken during the Prairie Air Show last month.
