Welcome to the end of the year and the month of December, this week has brought a little cold temperatures into the Midwest - hopefully you are staying warm where you are. While I don't normally wish cold temperatures on anyone, if the cold arrives soon so will the Bald Eagles coming from the North. Last year was not as cold as I would like, as the number of eagles was low in the area I normally find them. Maybe this year the number of eagles migrating south will increase, I expect to be seeing some before the end of this month.

Last month I sent the Monthly Update from Moab Utah, while visiting Arches National Park, this month I am home. The trip was wonderful and I am already planning a return to southern Utah! By time the trip was over, I had been to Saguaro National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Lower Antelope Canyon within Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, all in Arizona and then Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park and Arches National Park, all located in southern Utah. Images have been posted at http://www.prints.timlesterimages.com - select the Parks collection and then the park you are interested in.

Since it's the season of giving, how about a special offer for the loyal subscribers of the newsletter. For the month of December, if you make a purchase at http://www.prints.timlesterimages.com you can receive a 35% discount on your order over $25. Enter Coupon Code Xmas2011 during checkout to receive the discount. For those who order prints, I would highly recommend the metal paper - it will make the scenes from these parks really pop off the paper.

The images this month are from a couple of different National Parks located in the West, the landscape image is from the Virgin Narrows, along the North Fork of the Virgin River in Zion National Park. It required an incredible hike for a few hours to reach this location, the water temperature was around 50 deg F. Since the walls of the canyon are so high, you rarely have sun light and you hike in water 90% of the time but it was worth the hike! It is a very popular location for park visitors, with the hike being ranked in the top 10 in the United States - it is a strenuous hike so do your research and be prepared if you ever attempt the hike.

The secondary image is from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, the image was taken during winter in the lower elevations a few years ago. The bulls were 'playing' more than fighting each other, they would go after each other for a little while and then stop, eat some grass and then fight some more. It was a pleasure to watch them, not so much fun watching other park visitors approach the Elk attempting to get that 'close-up' image. People just don't understand these animals are wild and could attack.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
