Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Welcome to a New Year! Depending on who you listen to, this will be our last year with the Mayan calendar ending in December 2012. With a little research you would understand what is really going on - "For the Maya, the famous date of December 21, 2012 marks the beginning of the fifth cycle of 5,200 years called Job Ajaw, or The Fifth Sun". Another way to think of this, when your car odometer rolls over and starts over at 0 miles, this is the new cycle of the Mayan calendar.
The primary image this month is from Arches National Park, located in Moab Utah. This image is the famous Delicate Arch with the La Sal Mountains in the background. This image was shot about 30 minutes after sunset, long after the crowds left after watching sunset. Getting to Delicate Arch is a lengthy hike, with some obvious trails and some not so obvious trails with Cairn marks - little man-made pile of stones. Easy to follow on the hike up but after sunset you need a good flashlight to follow them down to the parking lot.
The secondary image was taken last year, shot along the Mississippi River near Burlington Iowa. Every year I wait for the cold weather to start and have the migrating bald eagles to entering the Mississippi and Illinois River valleys. The eagles are looking for open water that allows for easier feeding, which is a reason they are found in large numbers near Lock and Dams. While the Midwest has been more spring like over the past few weeks, the bald eagles started showing up in early December - hopefully I will get out and find some this weekend.

I noticed after uploading the Bald Eagle image to the website earlier, there is some shades of blue in the sky. I only see this in web browsers, so I am curious if anyone is seeing the shading on their computer - I am not seeing it on my computers. I plan on doing some further testing with various Operating Sytems to see what the cause is, the image has not been manipulated, only cropped to match the different sizes of wallpaper.
