Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Welcome to the month of August, the year is half over and a majority of kids around the United States will be starting school within the next 4 weeks. I don't plan on telling my kids, I am sure they know it but really don't want to admit summer is over. For those interested in astronomy, there is a 'Blue Moon' this month. A 'Blue Moon' is a rare event when there are two full moons in one month. This will not happen again until July 2015. There is also the annual Persied Meteor shower peaking on August 11th, it's on a Saturday night so find a dark location and see how many meteors you can count.
Sadly for those of us in the Peoria area, both the Prairie Air Show and the Hot Air Balloon Festival were canceled in the month of July. These are both wonderful events and hopefully the organizers will correct any problems with this years event and they can return to the schedule next year. For people in the Midwest that enjoy motorcycle racing, August is a great month. The AMA Peoria TT will be held on August 12th and the following weekend will have the World MotoGP bikes racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Both events have great racing, so if you are within a 6 hour drive of either location you should attend.
The first image this month is from the coast of Maine, it's the Cape Neddick Light House located in York. It's a very popular location based on it's location and is photographed daily, you may have heard referenced as 'Nubble Light' or 'The Nubble'. We arrived a little late for the actual sunset but the light was still wonderful for another 30 minutes. We will be heading back to the Northeast this month to enjoy some wonderful time with family and great friends. Hopefully the weather works out and maybe I will take an image or two. Ok, maybe a few hundred will actually be taken.
The second image this month is from the night glow at the Galesburg IL Balloon Race at Lake Storey Park. One unique feature of this event is they allow everyone to walk out on the field with the balloons during the glow. It's nice for adults and children to get next to the baskets and balloons, the heat from the burners is not welcome after a hot day but you have to take the good with the bad. In the balloon image, you will see blue blurs from kids and their glow bracelets.
Sharp eyed viewers will notice a 'blue' pattern to this month's images, happy 'Blue Moon' month. Hopefully my friend and photography mentor Kevin May likes the blue!
