It appears that winter has arrived in the Midwest and northern states, in Illinois we have already experienced single digit temperatures at night and snow flurries. Curious how Mother Nature is going to treat everyone this year, hopefully she is nice. Last month Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy hit the Eastcoast and did some incredible damage, really changing the landscape for humans and wildlife. Both images this month show a few different views of seaside locations.

I don't normally go in the technical side of things but here's one that I thought was important. Most people believe that printed images all look the same no matter where you go but this is far from the truth. Photographers like myself spend time and money to make sure our images have the proper color when displayed on a screen, in print, printed small like a 2x3 or really large like 24x36. Computer monitors will display colors differently and even web browsers render color differently. Last month a fellow photographer performed a little experiment which I thought I would share with everyone, as this is an important distinction between professional photographers, professional photo labs from other's who think they provide the same type of service. First a little disclosure, the photographer (Kirsten) works for the photography store that did this experiment but I can attest to the results as I have done similar test's in the past. All photo printers are different, they use a little different process and depending on how often they are cleaned and calibrated, the results can vary. If you have ever had similar images printed at multiple locations, you have probably experienced similar results. The results can be different for local stores or even web based printers and it all has to do with color calibration from editing of the image to printing of the image. If the editing and printing are not using the same reference, you will get a color shift. Most professional labs offer 'color correction' service, this is a person correcting color to what they believe is proper for the image. In some cases, two different people doing color correction could cause a color shift between images. Here's the blog post with images - http://kirstenkrupps.blogspot.com/2012/11/does-it-really-matter-where-you-print.html If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

Both images this month return us to the wonderful state of Maine, the first image was shot from a boat early one morning. The local harbormaster took me out on his boat and we carefully drove around the bay looking for unique images of boats. The second image is along the shore line; hopefully the homes and area survived Sandy's destruction.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
