Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Another year has come and gone, the doomsayers were all wrong as the world did not end a few weeks ago - such a shock! Guess I need to pay all the bills now. :-) As I look back on the past year, the Midwest seemed to have relatively calm weather compared to most of the United States. We were very dry like most of the country; even remnants of Hurricane Issac did not help create picturesque water falls in some of our popular State Parks.
Most of my free time this year was spent learning finer details of photography and increasing my marketing knowledge. Looking to expand in a few different area's this next year, hopefully some of my plans help increase my business and client base. Tomorrow I plan on heading north for my annual New Year photography trip to shoot images of the wonderful American Bald Eagle along the Mississippi River, the last few weeks have remained fairly cold and ice is starting to form along lakes - all good signs for their winter migration. A few years ago I was lucky enough to find hundreds of Bald Eagles at one location on New Year's Day - maybe tomorrow I can have the same type of luck.
The first image this month is very common around the Midwest, a simple machine shed on a farm with a little snow. Like most days in the winter, this particular day was very gray so the sky is nothing to write home about. The second image this month was shot in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. This bugling Elk was moving toward an area of grass that was free of snow cover. The sound of a bugling Elk is really something special and wonderful to witness, even when you can not see the Elk. Once you hear the sound you will always remember it and it's special each time. In the winter time, the bull Elk create a herd - while somewhat large in numbers like 20-30 per herd it's nothing compared to the 100 plus herd of cow Elk found in other area's of the park.
