Can you believe it's March already?!? Seems like the first of January was just a few weeks ago. Mother Nature has been unleashing a great deal of snow across the Plains and Northeast, even here in Central Illinois we have snow that has covered all the grass and stayed for a week now - seems odd given the winter we have experienced this year. For those people who know me, the winter is spent at the hockey rink, looking for bald eagles and looking for interesting winter landscapes. The past few month's seems like I only see hockey rinks, both as a coach for a few teams and shooting images of games, currently I am in the middle of a week long hockey tournament. I have started working with a few new clients, shooting a wide range of subjects including live music for a wonderful band.

Since I received wonderful feedback on the ice fall image last month, the first image this month is also from Starved Rock State Park in Utica IL, the image is from St.Louis Canyon. This image was shot from 'behind' the falls, you can see a little portion of rock in the upper left corner of the image. You can also see large horizontal cracks in the ice where the lower portion of the ice falls is breaking apart from the top portion. I waited until the sunlight was directly on the ice to help enhance some of the colors with the light refracting within the ice.

The second image this month is from Owens Center ice arena in Peoria IL. For those people who have been or are involved with ice hockey, players will normally try and stop the puck with their body. While this is a good tactic, it can also hurt a great deal when you are hit. In this image, Brennan Anderson of the Peoria Mustangs, a North American Tier 3 Junior hockey team, attempts to stop the puck with his body, amazing since a few months before he injured his hand performing a similar play and later in this game he was hit in the same hand with a puck. In the background, Lynden Fields and goalie Alex Reichle look to stop the puck - the shot went wide of all three players.

Hope everyone enjoys the images this month and if you have any questions or comments let me know.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
