Say hello to the month of June! Why does it seem every month we talk about Mother Nature unleashing storms? She has been really testing the human spirit over the last few weeks by pounding the central regions of the United States. From numerous tornado's in the Plains to additional rain in the Midwest. Most rivers receeded to non-flood level stages and then within a few weeks are back to flood stages. In 2012, Illinois received 34.12 inches of precipitation and so far this year we have received 17.9 inches with nearly 11 inches in the last 2 months!
Last month I talked about the sale of the Peoria Rivermen and the unknown future of professional hockey in Peoria. Things change fast as the Peoria Rivermen will continue operating in Peoria with new owners and playing in a different league. They will be playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) along with the Bloomington Blaze, so we will have another I74 rivarly in ice hockey starting next season.
A few monthly subscribers have sent emails wondering what is wrong and why they did not wake up to a new set of images available for download. For the first time everyone is getting a really fresh image - the first image this month was shot on June 1st. With all of the rain we have received over the past few days it was the perfect time to get some really good waterfall pictures at Starved Rock State Park in Utica IL. So this month you can enjoy a view of LaSalle Canyon with larger than normal water flow for the first of June. If you are located in Central Illinois, get out to see some of the water falls and if you have any questions about which falls I would recommend then contact me.
The second image this month is from the famous Peoria TT race track run by the Peoria Motorcycle Club. The famed Peoria TT is the longest-running dirt track race in the world, holding races consecutively since 1947. The image was shot last June in the TT race, with racer JD Beach leading the pack of riders as they travel from turn two toward the famous jump. If you have never attended a motorcycle race in Peoria try and attend a race this year, the June race is on the 16th and the August race is on the 11th.
