Happy New Year to everyone around the world, hoping 2014 is better than 2013 for all my readers. My 2013 was good overall, I was hired by a few new clients and was able to shoot some new products that I never thought I would have shot previously. There were numerous challenges during the year, with some successful and some not so successful but I believe all my clients were happy with the results we obtained. While I don't make New Years Resolutions, I do plan on making 2014 a better year and produce unique images for all my clients.
The first image this month is from Canyonlands National Park in Utah, this is a part of Mesa Arch. Mesa Arch is a very common landscape image photographers like to capture, it's fairly small compared to the many arch formations at Arches National Park. It's unique based on it's orientation to the sun at sunrise and for a short period of time the underside glows orange to almost red color that is wonderful to experience. The morning I arrived there were only 3 other photographers setting up to shoot images and by the time sunrise actually started there was around 15. I was told we were lucky that morning, the day before had around 40 photographers and it's not uncommon for 50 plus photographers to be there. The real interesting part was that there were only 2 of us from the United States, everyone else was from other countries.
The second image is an American Bald Eagle, I think wondering if I could be picked up and if I tasted good - not that they care much about taste. For anyone that knows me, winter time in the Midwest is my time to search for Bald Eagles and take some photos and I always make a trip around New Years day. While the Peoria area has a few dozen eagles normally, with a few breeding pairs that are year round, I normally head over to the Mississippi River to find them by the hundreds. I have been lucky in colder winters to find locations with nearly 1000 bald eagles! That's a truly wonderful sight to see but is a challenge due to the cold weather along the river - the wind chill factor really has a big impact on the body and equipment.
Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
