Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Summer is nearing the end, with kids heading to school soon but we should not talk too much about that. Hopefully everyone has had a great summer and your weather has been good in your area. Hopefully Mother Nature brings some rain relief to the West coast. Here in the Midwest, we have had our Air Conditioning off more this past month than I can remember - I am not complaining, the fresh air is wonderful. Our images this month are going to be sending us half-way across the country for our two images, around 1200 miles by car.
The first image this month is looking out toward the Gulf of Maine from the southern tip of Otter Point in Acadia National Park. While shooting the image I was hoping the sail boat would get closer to my location but luck was not on my side this day. A little fact about Acadia National Park - located in the park is Cadillac Mountain, at 1,530 feet, it is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the United States from October through March. The few times I have been able to visit Acadia NP and Bar Harbor, it's always been a wonderful while a slightly different experience.
The second image this month was shot from the AMA Flat Track Grand National Indy Mile race last year. For AMA Flat Track racers, the Legendary Indy Mile is one the premier races they want to win. It's a fast race with the bikes reaching around 120 MPH on the straights, while being less than a foot from each other! The race is held in conjunction with the Indiana State Fair, some readers might remember an image I shared last year of some of the fair rides at night. This years race will be held on Friday August 8th, so take the day off and visit the fair during the day and watch the wonderful Indy Mile race at night. Anyone looking to see both extremes of AMA Flat Track racing, watch the Indy Mile and then visit the Peoria TT race the following weekend on Sunday August 17th. Speaking of the Peoria TT, the July amateur race was unfortunately rained out but they have rescheduled that race on Sunday August 24th. For Flat Track racing fans, that's three races over three weekends about 3 hours from each other - it's rare to have races over three consecutive weekends at two legendary race tracks.
