Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
The month of October is complete, hopefully all of my friends in the US enjoyed Halloween. Here in the Midwest, it seems like fall does not want to end and we still have some nice colors being displayed. As I type this months newsletter, the temperature is dropping in Central Illinois and we are expecting the low to be in the mid-20s. It's temporary as the temperatures will be back in the 60s in a few days, curious if we see any of the white stuff before Thanksgiving this year.
The first image this month is from a solitary trip to an iconic location in northern Arizona, it's Lower Antelope Canyon - a wonderful slot canyon that is amazing to hike. It's hard to describe the adventure hiking the canyon, one moment you can have 4-5 people side by side and later you can barely fit one person by the narrow walls. The entrance is a short ladder down but the climb out is a few flights of stairs while the view toward the sky is stressing your neck for most of the hike. The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or "Spiral Rock Arches", many years ago, herds of Pronghorn Antelope roamed freely in and around the canyon, which explains the English name. There is also an Upper Antelope Canyon, which is an unrelated hike/tour. Back in October 2006, there was a major rainstorm that flooded the canyons for 36 hours and Lower Antelope closed for five months. The second image this month is from Monmouth College, located in Monmouth IL, during their homecoming football game. The Fighting Scots are a Division III school but the players are still giving all they can to get a win. It's almost like a high school atmosphere, much different from a Division I college game. In this image, Senior Michael Buehne shows the Beloit College defense how to run the football - in total he rushed for 187 yards and scored four touchdowns on the day; Monmouth beat Beloit 40-7.
