Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
It's August and those along the northern half of the Illinois River can start relaxing as the river finally dropped below flood stage yesterday in Peoria. Area's closer to the Mississippi River are still experiencing some flooding but hopefully that will be resolved soon. The river peaked on June 30th and it's rare for the river to be above flood stage for two(2) months - have to feel sorry for businesses and residences near the edge of the river. I read a quote from a Marina owner who indicated they normally sell 20000 gallons of fuel to boaters each month during the summer, they have not sold any fuel since May. The tedious process of cleanup has begun and will most likely continue for a few weeks.
The first image was shot last month in Ontario Canada. This image was captured at 5:10am on the final day of our visit - see what you can miss when you sleep in and not view the sunrise! I had the pleasure of joining some Boy Scouts for a high adventure camp in Ontario with one catch - the boats you see are the method of transportation from the US to the camp location. Since the camp is ten(10) miles from a US based marina, motor boats are almost required.
The second image is from a beach in Chicago on Northerly Island, just south of Adler Planetarium. These Black Ring Gull's were standing near the waters edge waiting for something to be washed up. While approaching a few gulls, I decided to move slow and get low - almost within range of petting a gull. In this image, obviously one of the gulls took exception to another gulls planed landing location.
