Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Would like to send well wishes to all of the friends along the East coast and Southeast, hopefully you are fully recovered and back to normal after last weekends incredible snow storm. It's one of those storms that part of me says I would like to experience something like that once but then reality hits me in the face and says you are crazy. We have experienced 12" of snow falling in a single storm about 15 years ago and that took some time to dig out from, so I have not idea how individuals were able to handle 2 feet plus. This month has a unique astronomical anomaly, only 3 phases of the moon - there will not be a last quarter moon in February. The reason for this is due to the fact that the lunar phase cycle (from new Moon to new Moon) is 29.5 days.
The first image this month is from Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado - it's Bear Lake with Hallett Peak in the background on an overcast winter day. In the winter time there is some great snowshoe hikes available starting at Bear Lake and if conditions are hard packed, you can even hike in regular boots.
The second image this month is also from Rocky Mountain National Park but from Moraine Park. This image includes the popular park animal - Elk. During the winter months the concentrations of Elk become large as the higher elevations have too much snow and the Elk migrate to lower locations.
