Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
The month of June is here and most school children are on summer vacation. Let the fun times begin! For myself, the month of May was a blur with numerous events every week of the month - this past weekend I actually had three different motorcycle races to cover. Each race was held on a different race track and different style of race - it was a real test for the racers.
The first image this month is from Starved Rock State Park near Utica IL, this location is Tonty Canyon. This canyon is unique since after heavy rains it has a double waterfall, I have actually seen one photo after a major storm when three waterfalls were flowing. Not sure who the photographer was to capture all three, but they did a great job as it's not easy to capture the double waterfall. The first key is being at the right place at the right time, I have seen the double waterfall just once and the second waterfall did not have much water flow. One day I will get the double waterfall and hopefully get lucky to capture an image of the triple.
The second image this month is from the biggest motorcycle race of the Memorial Day weekend - the Springfield Mile on the Illinois State Fairgrounds Racetrack, which is claimed to be the "Worlds Fastest Mile". Bryan Smith (42) proved his dominance at the Springfield Mile on his Kawasaki, taking home his third consecutive Mile victory of the 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track season. He has also won the last three Springfield Mile races at the historic venue. A lap takes about 37 seconds and the racers are bar to bar the entire race, the top six finishers crossed the finish line in less than 0.75 seconds apart after 25 miles of racing. The race was also the debut of the next generation Harley-Davidson XG750R race bike, a future replacement for their XR750 that’s been around for 44 years.
