First off, apologies for not having this update message in your inbox first thing today. The intention was to have it completed and ready for viewing early this morning but there was a change in images and I was not fully prepared while traveling over the weekend.
The weather is changing in the Midwest and we are starting to experience fall-like temperatures, hopefully your area is having good weather and for those friends in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope your winter is ending and spring is showing its face. We would like to take some fall color trips this year, if you have any favorite locations, please share them with me and maybe one of your locations can be featured in a future edition of this newsletter..
Our first image this month is Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, captured early last month. This is actually taken from a roadside viewpoint south of the park, I wanted to capture the sunrise as the light breached the horizon but Mother Nature decided she had other plans. This particular morning, the sun was obscured by clouds initially but clouds started breaking to give some light, with this image actually captured about 30 minutes after sunrise - I was actually at this location about 45 minutes before sunrise, so I had some time to find other subjects to capture while I was hoping the sun would shine some light on the rock face, my patience paid off with this image. Camera Data: 200mm 1/50 sec F5.6 ISO100
The second image was the problem child for delaying the delivery of this month's update. Based on the fact that a couple of historic events occurred during the annual running of the American Flat Track(AFT) Springfield Mile event this weekend. For those who don't follow motorcycle racing, the Springfield Mile is one of the crown jewels of the racing series and could probably be considered the Indy 500 for the racers - not sure what else would qualify with that honor. The first historic event took place on Saturday when Australian racer Tom Drane, number 59 in the upper left corner image, won the AFT Singles Championship; this was the first time ever that a non-American racer has won a professional flat track title. There has been a good group of non-Americans in the series over the years, and amazingly, this is the first time. Congratulations to Tom and his team for accomplishing this feat. The other historic moment was on Sunday, when Indiana resident Trent Lowe, on the number 48, won his first premier class race plus on a Honda TransAlp-powered race bike, the first win for the bike after two years of development and racing. Trent was able to top the field but just barely; his victory interval was only 0.026 seconds oer second place and the top seven were separated by less than 0.6 seconds. This was the first win in flat track of a Honda-powered twin cylinder motorcycle since 1998, in addition, this was the first win for a Honda Twin at the Springfield Mile since 1993. The Springfield Mile is considered the fastest dirt mile track in the world, one of the reasons for this is the design of the track as both straights are 1/4 mile each and each set of corners is 1/4 mile each. This gives racers an advantage of not having to slow down as much as other mile race tracks, which tend to have longer straights and tighter radius corners.
Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens along with a Mobile Phone Image. For desktop computers or tablets, Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your device and change the background as needed for your OS.
For Mobile devices, most mobile phones require a long press and a menu pop-up will be displayed, click save then follow the steps for your operating system to set as your background image.
If anyone has problems or questions with their mobile device, let me know and I will try to assist.
