Tim Lester Images Monthly Update
Wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to comment last month - great to hear when people enjoy the images we are releasing. So who's ready for the shortest month of the year? Not sure I am yet but we will give it all and have fun. Last month I failed to tell you about the lunar eclipse on the morning of the 31st - we actually had two full moons in January and with the 28 days this month, there is not a full moon in February! Here in Central Illinois timing was not great for the eclipse with mostly cloudy skies.
The first image is from Rocky Mountain National Park, March 2017, of frozen Emerald Lake. During my visit last March it was fairly warm and snow was melting, I am sure conditions right now are much different. This image was taken around 10100 feet of elevation, so I am sure 4 to 5 feet of snow is sitting on the frozen lake. For reference, Bear Lake where the trail head starts at 9475 feet currently has 27 inches on the ground. If you are curious of the surrounding peaks, Hallett Peak is on the left at 12713 feet and the ridge along the right side is Flat Top Mountain at 12324 feet.
Our second image this month is from an IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race last year at Road America, in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. While there is most likely snow on the track currently, this image was selected since last weekend was the Rolex 24 at Daytona - the first major car race of the new season. This car belongs to Action Express Racing Team who finished first and second overall after the 24 hour race was completed this year, the number 31 finished second to their sister car - the top three finishers all finished on the same lap within 91 seconds of each other, with a new record of 808 laps completed. That's 2876 miles! Their average speed was about 120mph - if I could legally travel that fast I would save lot's of time on my road trips.
