Hello to March and hopefully spring weather! The past week has felt like spring here in the Midwest, so I am sure we will get a decent snow blast this month. February did not have a full moon, so March is making up for that and giving us two, on the 1st and 31st. March is already looking to be a busy month, so let's get going.

This month both images are celebrating the worlds first National Park - Yellowstone, created on March 1, 1872. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into law on that day. Click the following link to learn about the history of the park: https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/historyculture/yellowstoneestablishment.htm

Better yet, make plans now to visit the park this year - you will not regret the decision. Word of warning, the park is very large so plan a good deal of time to see some of the park. If you have any questions about things to do, visit the Yellowstone NP website or send me an email and I will attempt to help you with planning.

The first image is Orange Spring Mound in the Mammoth Hot Springs region of the park, it's rock made of calcium carbonate. The Mammoth Hot Springs area has features constantly changing, so each visit will most likely be different from the last, possibly even on the same day.

Our second image this month is an American Bison taking up his lane in the road. Funny story, early one morning I was looking for photographic opportunities and found a hot spring with some steam rising up. I found a place to park some distance down the road; I hiked back to the hot spring to take some photos and started my return to the vehicle. When I returned to the road this guy was walking straight towards me - not something I wanted to happen that day (or any day). I moved off the road and attempted to hide behind a tree - maybe foot in diameter, so not really hiding but I felt better with a little something between us. So while hiding and a camera available, I had to shoot a picture - for those wondering, this was shot wide angle at 40mm. The bison had no concerns of my presence but held traffic up going both directions on the park road - obviously I made it back to my vehicle for another adventure in the park.

Here's a link to download the appropriate version of this month's image for your desktop, one for standard screens and one for wide-screens. Right click on the text for the format you need and select Save As, save to a location on your computer that you can remember and change the background as needed for your OS.
