Tim Lester Images Monthly Update

June 30th 2018

We have reached mid-point of the year, while summer officially starting a few weeks ago. For my friends in the USA, we are approaching our countries birthday of July 4th, which marks a national holiday when friends and family get together to grill out, play games and witness firework displays. For those who like numbers, July 1 is the 182nd day of the year (183rd in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar - there are 183 days remaining until the end of the year. The first image is from last year - Peoria IL's Red, White ...Continue Reading

Remember last month when I said Spring was here - well last weekend we skipped right to Summer! A large number of people will curse me for saying this "Is winter here yet?" - I can deal with cold temperatures easier than hot temperatures but I realize most people are the opposite. The first image is a sort of tribute but more thoughts to those in Hawaii having to experience Mother Nature and the Kilauea volcano. A large number of us can hardly imagine what they are experiencing - hopefully everyone near the f ...Continue Reading

April was an interesting month here in Central Illinois, we had moments of Winter, Spring and Summer! I think we can safely say Spring is here but the last snow fall we experienced a few weeks ago did arrive after the first spring flowers were blooming. The first image is a monument located at Mead Rapids View Park in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin on a sunny spring day. The clock and bell in the tower were originally installed in 1892, serving the neighboring village of Grand Rapids until 1957 when the building was demol ...Continue Reading

Spring might be here to stay based on the calendar but hard to say since last week Mother Nature decided to dump snow on most of the United States. Most people are upset with me since I predicted last month that we will get a decent snow blast and here in Central Illinois we received around 10 inches of very wet snow in 24 hours. We also had high winds during the storm which created drifting snow which closed down many roads in the area. I really don't believe any weather forecast further out than 3 days, as I type this ...Continue Reading

February 28th 2018

Hello to March and hopefully spring weather! The past week has felt like spring here in the Midwest, so I am sure we will get a decent snow blast this month. February did not have a full moon, so March is making up for that and giving us two, on the 1st and 31st. March is already looking to be a busy month, so let's get going. This month both images are celebrating the worlds first National Park - Yellowstone, created on March 1, 1872. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act into ...Continue Reading

Wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to comment last month - great to hear when people enjoy the images we are releasing. So who's ready for the shortest month of the year? Not sure I am yet but we will give it all and have fun. Last month I failed to tell you about the lunar eclipse on the morning of the 31st - we actually had two full moons in January and with the 28 days this month, there is not a full moon in February! Here in Central Illinois timing was not great for the eclipse with mostly cloudy ski ...Continue Reading

Happy New Year! It's now 2018 and 2017 is behind us. This year marks the 10 year I have been selling prints and my photography services, so I guess it's an anniversary year for myself. This is the eighth year since I started these monthly updates, hope you enjoy reading them and using the images for your computer background. The first image is from Chicago IL, specifically from the John Hancock building and 360 Chicago - an observation deck on the 94th floor. I was offered a chance to shoot sunrise and sunset a couple ...Continue Reading

The final two months of the year are here - this past week has felt like winter has begun. Hopefully fall will return for a few weeks but time will tell. Looks like the last few months are going to be busy, so not much time to relax. The first image is a little fall colors from Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado - these are the tallest sand dunes in North America. While a large sand dune is one feature, the altitude ranges from 7500 feet to 13500 feet and covers 149,000 acres between the National Park and Natio ...Continue Reading

Can you believe we have reached the last quarter of the year!?! This year has been busy but I am shocked this is October and fall weather has hit Central Illinois. The first image is what a hot air balloon ride above Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta looks like on opening weekend. I was lucky enough a few years ago to be offered a ride during the second wave on Sunday morning, no way I was going to say no to that offer! You obtain a better perspective on the actual 'pilot' portion of a hot air balloon team, yes ...Continue Reading
