Tim Lester Images Monthly Update

August 31st 2010

Another month gone by, seems like I just did the update for August. For me the month flew by as I was busy, which is usually not a bad thing. I shot a few sporting events, a large amount of landscapes and a some wildlife. The sporting events ranged from professional drag racing in Madison, IL, the first Xterra triathlon in the state of Illinois and the always wonderful Peoria TT motorcycle race. Managed to get out to shoot some new landscape stuff in the area and then spent a week in the state of Maine with my family an ...Continue Reading

Can you believe it's August already?!!! Where has the summer gone, I guess time does fly by when you are having fun. Soon all the kids will be back in school and complaining they wish it was summer again. July was busier than I originally planned but we had fun and managed to obtain a few good images; there were a few bad ones also - maybe one or two. I actually did some storm chasing this month but was never happy with any of the results. Spent some time traveling around the western part of Illinois and eastern Iowa, f ...Continue Reading

June 30th 2010

June is usually a busy month and it was, as I mentioned in last month's message, but this month Mother Nature changed some of my plans. The Hotshoe race at the Peoria TT track was rained out, so I am hoping for a good and dry August National race. Even the Proctor Cycling Classic had rain, so no event was safe and at this time the Illinois River is 4.5 feet above flood stage and countless acres of corn has been destroyed before July even begins. One event that I did not mention about last month is the 24 Hours of Le Man ...Continue Reading

This is a resend, I believe my mail system had a problem yesterday and did not get the email update to everyone. If you are receiving this as a duplicate I am sorry but I would rather make sure. I have been very busy during the past month shooting at various locations around the state with some old and new locations. I spent some time at Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park and visited a new location for me in Monticello Illinois, Allerton Park and Retreat Center. While I did not spend much time at Allerton, ...Continue Reading

I have been very busy during the past month shooting at various locations around the state with some old and new locations. I spent some time at Starved Rock State Park, Matthiessen State Park and visited a new location for me in Monticello Illinois, Allerton Park and Retreat Center. While I did not spend much time at Allerton, this is a location I will be returning soon to capture the numerous gardens. In case you have never heard of Allerton Park, it's one of the 7 Wonders of Illinois. In addition to these locations I ...Continue Reading

The desktop image for this month is dedicated to all the mothers (and fathers) who work so hard raising their young. Most of the pictures were shot at Wildlife Prairie State Park, the bald eagle was shot along the Illinois River and the humpback whales were at the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary in the Atlantic Ocean. It's always fascinating to watch the adults interact with their young, I spent a few hours watching the bald eagles with the adults building up the nest and attempting to feed the three fledgling ...Continue Reading

The image for this month was taken a year ago, during the annual Wildlife Prairie State Park’s Bison Grounds Blessing. I receive numerous questions from people asking if I receive special access in the park for my pictures, normally I do not but this month’s image was the one occasion when I did. I was truly honored to be invited to witness the release of the bison from the winter pasture to the summer pasture. In this image is a Native American named Spotted Thunderhorse, a good friend of WPSP, honoring ...Continue Reading

Last month I mentioned I had been shooting at Starved Rock State Park, so this month's image is from one of the trips I made this year. The image is from Kaskaskia Canyon, located in the eastern side of the park, it was shot from behind the ice falls looking back into the canyon. The height of the cave area is around 5 feet tall, so I had to kneel down to shoot this image. This was the first time I had actually gone behind ice falls into a cave region; the ice was solid so I was not concerned with the ice breaking. I am ...Continue Reading

The image this month was taken last winter, in very cold and windy conditions, the shot was taken next to the Peoria Civic Center with City Hall just out of view to the left of the image. It took a few attempts to get the moon and clouds like I was hoping to capture, I was hoping for a wind from the north to capture a better American Flag. The image includes one of most unique building structures in Peoria. The Twin Towers opened to residents in May of 1984, after four years of battles at City Hall. The Palace Theater ...Continue Reading

First of off, welcome to 2010 – hopefully this year will be good to everyone. 2009 was very challenging from the beginning and stressful at times. My wildlife and landscape images were very well received and I had the opportunity to talk to a half dozen groups about taking photographs, including one talk for an annual group gathering. This email update will occur once a month and let you know of current events and what I have been shooting lately. My gift to you will be a desktop calendar for you to use on your ...Continue Reading
