The end of 2016 is near - where did this year go? My apologies for this being sent a day later than normal. The first image this month is burned out trees in Great Smoky Mountains NP. Fires occur in forest regions around the United States every month but the fires between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tennessee will change those area's for decades. Great Smoky Mountains NP average two fires a year but normally in the Spring. Hopefully Mother Nature and the firefighting crews can control the fires and prevent any addition ...Continue Reading

Not sure I can believe that November is here, before we know it the white stuff will start falling. Until then it, appears that trees are either ready or not to drop their leaves, here in Central Illinois the majority of tree's don't feel like changing into a vibrant color. Hopefully they change their mind this week and we can capture some wonderful color. Should be some great weather over the next few weeks, so get out and enjoy the outdoors! The first image this month is subdued fall colors from Bond Falls in Michiga ...Continue Reading

Fall is here and farmers in the Midwest are harvesting as much as Mother Nature will allow. While the mountains in the West are putting on a good color display, locations in the Midwest are starting to turn colors and cooler temperatures this weekend should help move things along. The first image this month is fall colors from the Ottawa National Forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, taken a few years ago during a photo trip that was primarily planned for waterfalls. If you are prepared, all photo opportunities can be ...Continue Reading

Hopefully everyone survived the month of August and now we can say hello to September. With High School football started, it will be time for farmers to start harvesting crops and fall colors to start. August in the Midwest has been very wet but nothing like Louisiana has experienced. From the Red Cross - the catastrophic flood devastating Louisiana is now the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandy four years ago. Hoping the state of Louisiana and the homeless families can return to nor ...Continue Reading

August is upon us and seems like the couple of weeks have shown summer is finally here in the United States - hopefully you are staying out of the heat. July was a good month with a fair amount of travel and my first sale of images to a couple of clients in Germany. I will admit it was interesting during the negotiations to have to convert back and forth Euros and US Dollars but the real interesting part was their little English and my complete lack of German language. Everything worked out in the end. July also marked ...Continue Reading

The month of July is here and that means the Fourth of July Holiday for everyone in the United States, it also means the year is half over. First I need to apologize to everyone for not having this sent out before the first day of the month. I just returned from Wisconsin at a camp that was supposed to have internet access but either they were having hardware issues or everyone at camp was overloading their system. On Friday morning I was in their office and their staff were waiting for their own internet access to beco ...Continue Reading

The month of June is here and most school children are on summer vacation. Let the fun times begin! For myself, the month of May was a blur with numerous events every week of the month - this past weekend I actually had three different motorcycle races to cover. Each race was held on a different race track and different style of race - it was a real test for the racers. The first image this month is from Starved Rock State Park near Utica IL, this location is Tonty Canyon. This canyon is unique since after heavy rains ...Continue Reading

The month of April seems like it flew by and we possibly skipped the month - I know we did not as I was very busy with trips and new clients. The first week of the month I was fortunate to visit three National Park Service locations in Kentucky and Tennessee along with a few other locations. Future desktop calendars will feature images from these locations, so you will have to wait to read about them. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, two weeks ago I posted numerous images to my socia ...Continue Reading

Happy April Fools Day - hopefully no one pranks you too bad. Spring in the Midwest appears to be in full swing, a few weeks ago we had the displeasure of a tornado in Central Illinois. Unfortunately I personally know one family who had their house damaged - the roof was removed. Overall damage was minor in the area but the Peoria area is always in full alert when Tornado sirens sound based on the past few years experiences. Last month the pioneer of email passed away, his name was Raymond Tomlinson, I am sure most peop ...Continue Reading

Winter is over - not that Central Illinois really had a winter, Spring is definitely here and Summer is right around the corner. Get outside and enjoy the mild weather while it lasts - here's one person hoping we have a mild summer to go along with the mild winter. Similar to last month, this month also has a unique astronomical anomaly, 5 phases of the moon - there will be a last quarter moon on the first and last days of March. The first image this month is from Picture Rocks National Lake Shore in Michigan - with po ...Continue Reading
