February 29th 2012

Happy Leap Year Day, if it happens to be your birthday enjoy the youthful age. Winter is leaving us here in the Midwest, though it never really felt like it arrived - it was very mild and not much snow. Not a great year for photographing Bald Eagles and now they have started the migration back North. Congratulations to Robert Morris University Peoria for winning the MACHA Silver Division Ice Hockey Championship, they had a great season and played a good game to beat Marquette for the title. The primary image this month ...Continue Reading

Welcome to February or if you live in Central Illinois, welcome to spring?? As I type this, it's January 31st and 60 degrees ABOVE 0 outside! Spring is coming soon or it's going to be a really long time until summer - not sure which. I received numerous comments regarding my eagle image from last month, keep those comments coming - good or bad as I like to hear what people like or dislike about my images. One common theme in the comments is related to how great it must be going out and shooting these wonderful birds, s ...Continue Reading

Welcome to a New Year! Depending on who you listen to, this will be our last year with the Mayan calendar ending in December 2012. With a little research you would understand what is really going on - "For the Maya, the famous date of December 21, 2012 marks the beginning of the fifth cycle of 5,200 years called Job Ajaw, or The Fifth Sun". Another way to think of this, when your car odometer rolls over and starts over at 0 miles, this is the new cycle of the Mayan calendar. The primary image this month is f ...Continue Reading

Welcome to the end of the year and the month of December, this week has brought a little cold temperatures into the Midwest - hopefully you are staying warm where you are. While I don't normally wish cold temperatures on anyone, if the cold arrives soon so will the Bald Eagles coming from the North. Last year was not as cold as I would like, as the number of eagles was low in the area I normally find them. Maybe this year the number of eagles migrating south will increase, I expect to be seeing some before the end of th ...Continue Reading

Welcome to the month of November, sorry to say but the holidays are right around the corner, the temperatures and snow will soon be falling in the northern portion of the United States. Actually the snow has started in the Western US, over the past week I have seen snow in Arizona and Utah. If you are a baseball fan, the playoffs this year were incredible! Congrats to the St.Louis Cardinal fans on winning the World Series. For the Texas Ranger fans, hopefully you can reach the World Series next year and the third time w ...Continue Reading

Welcome to the month of October, fall has started, high school football is in full swing and the baseball playoffs have started. If you are a baseball fan, last Wednesday was an incredible night of games for the wildcard races for both the National and American leagues. Sorry to the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox fans of this update - it was a hard loss to both teams. One of my favorite 'features' of the fall season is the cooler temperatures at night, mix in the right dew point and you get a nice layer of fog. Duri ...Continue Reading

August 31st 2011

What a busy last 2 weeks! The highlights were shooting 4 different types of motorcycle racing and a golfing event - can life get much better? There was also a small town parade and a Congressmen visit to a local manufacturing facility, which included a tour and a 'townhall' like discussion. I felt sorry for the Senators and Representatives wearing their dress clothes in a factory on one of the hottest days of the month; with high humidity to add a little moisture. If you live along the East coast of the US, then yes th ...Continue Reading

Hopefully everyone survived the heat wave of July 2011, it seems most of the country had a share. I had a busy month with shooting a few different firework displays for the 4th, the Balloons at the Park festival the following weekend and the Prairie Air Show which was held in very hot conditions on Saturday and raining conditions on Sunday. There were a few other smaller events and shoots, all of which were fun times. Then came the bad times, we lost my father in-law on the night of July 23rd. Richard loved viewing my ...Continue Reading

July 1st 2011

Don't tell the kids, but it's July, summer break is about half over and school will be back in session soon! Most people enjoy the 4th of July even though it can be very hot all around the country, so get out and see some fireworks on the 4th - I know I will be out there with a camera. For those in the Peoria area, July 22-24 is the annual Prairie Air Show, it does not have the flash, boom, bang like the 4th but there are some great views. If you have never attended an air show before, you need to get to one - the pilo ...Continue Reading

Why does it seem every month this year we need to say 'hope everyone is safe'? Mother Nature is causing problems all over the world and for those in the United States, the Midwest keeps getting a larger portion than needed - not that anyone needs the problems. This month we have a couple of images for your viewing pleasure, depending on your point of view. The first image is a landscape image for the nature lovers and the second image is a racing image for the action lovers. The first image this month was shot in Edwa ...Continue Reading
